This week is validation week, so make sure you come out to the validation station at lunch to write a validation to anyone on campus! Various prizes will be offered throughout the week so don’t be afraid to stop by! (B. Koerber, 3/22)

LIBRARY NEWS:
PGHS/KAMS Library will be CLOSED tomorrow, WED. March 20th for PGHS Career Kickstarter. Again, library’s closed all day tomorrow for career event. (Ms. V, 3/20)

CONGRATULATIONS to Kathy Le won the Zone Contest of the Lion’s Club last week with her “Freedom of the Press” speech!  She will continue to move on to the Region Contest on March 26!  Good luck!! (J. Mullins, 3/19)

Come out to support you Academic Decathlon team TODAY (Tuesday, 3/19) at Chipotle. The team gets 33% of all proceeds that will help them attend the state competition. We’ll see you there TODAY from 5 to 9. (M. Holy, 3/19)

This is the last week to pay for AP tests for students testing this year. The deadline to pay for your test(s) is Friday, March 22nd .  If you want to test you have to pay by Friday…see Mr. Hirsch in counseling office if you have any questions. (T. Hirsch, 3/22)

GENERAL & FUTURE NEWS:

The ASVAB Military Test will be given on Monday, April 8th from 8-11 in the Career Center.  Please sign up in the Career Center.

Juniors, if you have room in your senior year schedule please consider being a peer tutor. It looks great on your college transcript! (T. Kauer, 3/8)

COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Elk Grove Elementary is having it's first Family Science Night. They need help with the hands on art activities tables. Directions and supplies will all provided - volunteers needed who are willing to help facilitate some building and art projects! WhenTuesday, March 19th.  Volunteers need to sign- in at 4:30 for directions about their table (pizza and water provided).  The event is from 5:30-7:30. Where:  Elk Grove Elementary, 9373 Crowell Drive, Elk Grove.  If you would like to volunteer please contact Ms. Templeton (former PGHSenglish teacher) at: TheNewGirlsQ.A@gmail.com

THE LUNG CANCER FOUNDATION needs volunteers for a marathon fundraiser being held on Saturday, March 30th.  Contact Brandy Peck at 408-622-1860 for details and volunteering.

IMPORTANT REMINDER - ALL GRADES!!! Want to learn what careers and degrees are available for you at CRC?  Come listen to a special presentation by Traci Scott from CRC on Monday, March 25th @ 9:00 a.m.  She will be giving us a glimpse of the various pathways you can take through degrees or certification at CRC.  Come find out about areas you may be interested in and how to apply for college and financial aid as well as how to take courses in high school.  All grades are welcome.  See attached flyer for info on degrees and certificates.  Please come and sign up in Student Services (at the counter) if you are interested :)

Sacramento Kings will celebrate Sikh Heritage Night on Tuesday, April 2nd  in advance of Vaisakhi (“Vay-zackee”), the game will feature initiatives highlighting and celebrating the Sikh community. You are cordially invited to attend Sac State's annual College: Making It Happen event scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2019. They are planning another exciting program with the most up-to-date information to help you prepare for college. The program will offer a wide variety of workshops, interactive sessions, and fun activities. The event is free

The ACLU Summer Advocacy Program (July 20-26) brings together high school students from across the United States to participate in a firsthand learning experience for the next generation of social justice advocates. During this week-long program in Washington, DC, students participate in electives and seminars led by lobbyists, community activists, lawyers, and ACLU experts to enhance their knowledge of civil liberties, social justice issues, and advocacy campaigns. The Close Up Foundation – a DC based civic education non-profit – partners with the ACLU to provide substantive experiential learning and small group discussion opportunities throughout the program.   • Applications are due by April 7.
  • Financial Aid is available (full and partial scholarships).
  • High school-aged students who are 15-18* years old are welcome to apply. *High school graduates are eligible to apply for the Advanced Advocacy Program.
