GENERAL NEWS:
Juniors and Seniors with space in their schedules: The AVID, English Language Learner, and Connections departments need peer tutors. It looks great on your transcript and feels great to help your fellow students! Contact your counselor or Mrs. Taylor in HJ-9. (T. Taylor, 8/30)

Do you have a schedule Issue? Please see our counselors under the umbrella in the quad before school, after school & during lunch to obtain a "schedule change request" form.  These forms must be filled out and signed by you and your parent/guardian then returned to your counselor in Student Services by Wednesday, 8/22 @ 3:30 p.m.  Counselors are processing requests as quickly as possible; if approved your new schedule will be delivered to you in class. 

Renaissance is here!!! Tuesday - Thursday
 any Sophomore-Senior who earned above a 2.5 GPA the last semester last year qualifies…  Sign-ups begin today.  Sign up in the MP room. 

ID card picture days are this week:

  • Juniors will be taking their pictures on Thursday during US History class.  If you are a junior who does not have US History you need to take them at lunch on Thursday.. DON’T FORGET.
  • Freshman an Sophomores will take their pictures during PE on Friday.  If you do not have PE you have a couple of options:  Go at lunch on Thursday or Friday and have your picture taken. Or… ask your advocacy teacher if you can go during advocacy on Thursday.
  • Seniors can still get your ID cards from the ASB room.

ON the day you take your pictures… If you purchased an ASB card be sure to get a sticker at the table outside the gym..  If you miss that opportunity you can get the sticker in the ASB room the following week.

ALL PICTURE PACKAGE INFO IS ON PGHS.NET  and will be distributed thru PE and US History…

CAFETERIA NEWS:

Students - new lunch forms are now available in the cafeteria and office areas and are due by September 10th.  

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

Get those community service hours in early! Mrs. Clark is looking for 3 tutors for math, science or homework help, Tuesdays from 3:30 – 5:30. Please see Mrs. Clark during lunch if you are interested! (A. Clark, 8/30)

LIBRARY NEWS:
 

Class Textbook checkouts continue this week…Students SAVE & Bring your Schedules or Id cards with you to Textbook windows.
Textbook Window hours 7:30—3:20Main library is CLOSED during textbook checkouts; reopens Sept. 4.
Students avoid expensive book fines:

  • Immediately write your first & last names in pen inside cover of textbooks.  Then, take a pic of your textbooks stacked showing the 4-digit #s on bottom facing pages. 
  • Do not leave their books unattended or in a classroom. Cover books and label with student name; keep books dry from beverages and rainy days to avoid expensive mold fines.
  • IMPORTANT:  Library’s “7-Day Rule”: During textbook distribution, it’s the student’s responsibility to check the condition of each textbook they’ve been issued for damage/graffiti. Students may be held responsible for any prior damage that is not reported to a librarian within 7 days of checkout.

Sept. 4 Library will reopen regular hours 7:30-3:20 (Th. 8:AM-3:20)

CAREER CENTER NEWS:

CLUB/ACADEMY/ACADEMIC NEWS:

Attention DMA students - there will be a "Welcome Back Donut Social" this Thursday, August 23rd in HE 18 at 8:00 a.m.  Be there to hear ALL the exciting upcoming things this year in the DMA!!! (K. Norsworthy, 8/23)

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
If interested in playing baseball this year at Pleasant Grove High School plan to attend an informational meeting in the cafeteria TONIGHTMonday, Aug. 20th beginning at 6:30 to meet our new head coach and learn about the upcoming seasons. (B. Belden, 8/20)

SPORTS ON TAP:
Volleyball hosts El Camino H.S. in the Foundation Game tonight beginning at 7:00 PM.  Hope to see you there. (B. Belden, 8/20)

19th Annual Historically Black College and Universities Fair This event is open to all high school students!  Plan to attend and register online at www.gotocollegefair.com

Learn what HBCU's have to offer:
Speak with recruiters representing 30-40 different HBCU's.
Receive application fee waivers.
On the spot" admissions from selected colleges, if qualified.
Scholarships awarded, if qualified.
