SAT/ACT Testing Dates for 2016-2017

We recommend that you take both the SAT and ACT in the spring of your junior year and the fall of your senior year, if you are planning on attending a 4-year college or university after high school.   Subject tests are no longer required, but some majors will still require them.  Please check with the individual college website and major requirements for guidance. Please see Mrs. Williams in the Career Center if you have any questions regarding testing.  Fee waivers are available for students that qualify.

In 2015, scholarships totaling $185,345 were awarded to 165 area students.

The scholarships that are generated and managed through the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation vary considerably in both amount of award and in the profiles of intended recipients.

The criteria describing intended recipients are determined by the individual or group who establishes the scholarship through initial donations and a commitment to endow.  For instance, community involvement may be a criterion for some EGRSF scholarships, but not for others.  Some are intended for students who enroll in four-year colleges; some are for students who plan to attend trade schools.

The EGRSF offers scholarships for individuals pursuing various careers including agriculture, nursing, education, auto mechanics, politics, and the arts, to name a few.

Explore CTE offers students in EGUSD and from other districts, charter schools and home schools the opportunity for intensive career technical education experiences.  Explore CTE replaces what had been known as ROP (Regional Occupational Program) as a result of changes to state funding.  Explore CTE courses are open only to high school students.  Elective credit towards graduation requirements can be earned. Some classes meet college a-g requirements and receive college units while other classes can lead to industry certification.   CTE has a variety of classes such as Ag Sales & Marketing, Floral Merchandising, Computer Animation, Game Design & Graphics, Visual Communications/Graphics, Careers with Children, Certified Nursing Assistant, EKG Tech, Medical Assistant, Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy Tech, Culinary Arts & Manufacturing Technology.  Classes are taught at various EGUSD high school campuses.  Some are part of the regular school day while others are taught after school. Courses can be a semester or yearlong and counselor approval is needed. Transportation to and from CTE classes is the responsibility of the student.   Interested in what CTE courses are available and right for you?  Contact your counselor or Mrs. Aguero (x4707) in Student Services.  You may also come by and pick up a CTE course catalog and application from the Career Center. Info and applications for CTE may also be obtained at the district website under Academics/Career Technical Education or by calling EGUSD at 916-686-7709.

     Work Permits

Students who are planning to get a job soon or currently have a job need to make sure they have a work permit. In order to be eligible for a work permit a student needs to have and maintain a 2.0 GPA, no “F’s” on their last grade report and good attendance. The first step is to come to Student Services and obtain a work permit application. This application needs to be filled out by the student and employer and signed by student, parent/guardian and employer. You then turn your completed application into Mrs. Aguero. Your actual “work permit” will be available for pick up from Student Services within 2 days from receipt of the completed application. Please see Mrs. Aguero for questions.
