Summer Reading Challenge

Treat yourself to the benefits of reading…
  • Reading for as little as 6 minutes can reduce stress by 60%, slow down heartbeat, ease muscle tension and alter your state of mind.
  • On average, readers have better physical and mental health plus better empathy.
  • Readers are more likely to help non-profit organizations both out-volunteering and out-donating non-readers.
  • Reading just 3 to 5 books over the summer can prevent summer learning loss.
  • Voluntary reading is essential to helping students become better readers, writers, spellers and critical thinkers!
  • Duh, students who read recreationally out-perform compared to those who do not.

Summer is a perfect time to begin a “Reading Challenge.”  We encourage all students to take the summer to participate in our PGHS/KAMS Library’s Summer Reading Challenge.  All students can turn in their completed challenge when we resume school in August to join our ice cream reward party.  Don’t miss out, start on your reading challenge this summer!  Check OUT Mrs. Kennedy's Top Ten Reading List Below!

You can also sign-up and participate in Sacramento Public Library's Summer Reading program too!  Stop by your local Sacramento Public Library Branch or click on the link below for more information.
