KAMS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD OVERVIEW

 

The Albiani Community Service Award recognizes students who have made a commitment to volunteer service. The award honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding community service and civic participation.

To receive the Albiani Volunteer Service Award students must complete at least 25 community service hours.

During the 2017-2018 school year, students must come to the initial meeting held in September to sign up to participate. Please listen for announcements for the Community Service Club meeting time and date.

Community Service activities can be counted from June 1, 2017 to March 30, 2018

Register with Mrs. Kennedy in the library as soon as possible at the beginning of the school year.

Paperwork is due to Mrs.Kennedy as soon as you are done with your hours.
(ALL paperwork is due on March 30, 2018 by 3:20 p.m.)

 


Types of activities that qualify:

  • Community environment cleanup or improvement
  • Helping people who are homeless or impoverished
  • Helping animals who are in distress or supporting service animals.
  • Improving public safety, health or special resources in the community.
  • Helping the elderly or disabled or sick in the community.
  • A “mission” that helps a community with a building project or other assistance outside of religious purposes.
  • Projects that raise money for charities or organizations that help others improve their lives.
  • Working with younger kids on literacy or education or self-esteem or staying away from harmful things.
  • Tutoring students in a subject that they struggle with
  • Club or school or performing arts activities that improve the lives of disadvantaged people or animal
     

Types of activities that are NOT qualified for these awards:

  • Helping a family member/relative who is elderly or disabled or sick
  • Assistance or activity that you get paid for
  • Helping a teacher with classroom preparation or grading.
  • Activities for school spirit, such as decorating, building a float or setting up for a dance
  • Activities for performing arts that do not directly benefit people whose circumstances do not give them access to cultural events. (for instance, being in a  play or band or dance does not qualify except for the time during a special concert for youth or for a senior center, etc.)
  • Helping with fundraisers or projects that are just to benefit your church, your cultural center, or your school.
  • A mission, project, teaching, helping or tutoring that involves religious education.
